Den Sorte Skole are taking over SPOT
Vasilis PanagiotopoulosVinyl will fly around your ears when Copenhagen DJ/producer collective Den Sorte Skole (Danish for ‘The Black School’) visit this year’s SPOT Festival. DSS are planning to give three “lectures”: an opening concert taking place in Aarhus’ old town, in the beautiful Helsingør Theater; a Q&A concert where the audience can ask questions on their newest output ‘Lektion #3’; and finally a fully-fledged show, where music, light show and Dark Matters’ visuals merge into one organism.
Den Sorte Skole were founded in 2003 by Simon Dokkedal, Martin Fernando Jakobsen and Martin Højland. By sampling music from all across the world and genres as diverse as folk, hiphop, psychedelic, electronica, surf, reggae and classical they take the listener on a truly unique journey through musical history and beyond. Their sound is original, massive and highly enchanting. Their live performances unfold on turntables and mpd-players with tons of samples flying through the speakers. Opposed to other turntablists, scratching is only used for extra finesse, as the ambition is to mix the thousands of soundbites into a flawless collage of sound, sounding like it was intended to be like this. DSS were awarded the 2006 Danish hip-hop prize for Best Danish DJ’s by Copenhagen venue Vega.
